Studio osservazionale su pazienti con ferite croniche degli arti inferiori colonizzate o criticamente colonizzate trattate con biofotonterapia. Sono stati arruolati dieci pazienti con ulcere venose o infiammatorie. Tutti i pazienti arruolati sono stati trattati una volta alla settimana con una doppia applicazione della terapia. Il periodo di trattamento è stato di 6 settimane e la valutazione finale è stata eseguita a 12 settimane. I dati raccolti sono stati: valutazione della carica batterica con il sistema Moleculight; e carica batterica con metodo semiquantitativo tramite tampone secondo Levine. Sono stati studiati quattro tipi di batteri: Stafilococchi, Pseudomonas, Enterococchi e Proteus. Misurazione del pH e valutazione del punteggio di Cutting e Harding per le infezioni. I risultati mostrano una buona performance nel controllo del bioburden e una riduzione dei segni clinici in 2 settimane. Il punto secondario era la riduzione del dolore e il miglioramento del tessuto perilesionale. La riduzione dell'area è stata inferiore nelle ferite di eziologia venosa di quasi il 40% e un tasso di guarigione del 33%, un risultato buono ma inferiore nelle ferite infiammatorie. Gli autori ipotizzano una marcata attività sui fattori legati all'infiammazione locale.
